The only non-Japanese character is Ryuji Ikeda from Initial D Characters. Applications were published by Sega, asking people to recommend characters on the sides of the Sega logo along with initial D Characters. The first four candidates were chosen, and they were re-created for the game. When the game was released, a contest was held to choose the character of the new Fujise character that appears in the arcade version of the next game in the series (but not on the Sega part since the Sega RingEdge hardware can only play Initial D Arcade Stage Ver.5). One of the finalists, Maki, had more fans who liked the character than anyone else. He was announced to be the final character in the first volume of the manga. Various other characters have appeared on cards. A unique gimmick in note for players from the first three arcade games was the ability to continue with a card. As of Version 1.4, this feature has been enabled for the first time for Initial D Arcade Stage Ver.4.
V1.50 cames out in 1996, four years after the release of the first installment. It adds several features including a new scoring more for GP.[14] The game also adds four more touge courses, as well as the ability to play various different race types found in Initial D Arcade Stage Ver.4. The game adds a new catch-up system for online play with The Id's Interchange, which lets players register their cars online on Sega's Neon Genesis Technology. A new promotional feature was added where the supervisor of the arcade would randomly select some players to receive the next best card the next day, which was the 'Player Closer' score bonus for a day. Since players' cards weren't refilled, the \"Player Closer\" card was limited while for Initial D Ver.5 and Ver.6 and the Arcade Stage Kuroku Sengen, it was unlimited. 7211a4ac4a
